Let’s Make a ‘100 Life Goals’ List!

So today I was surfing around the web, trying to come up with a concept for today’s blog post. I’ve been feeling a little bit of writer’s block lately but I came across something that really caught my eye.

There is this exercise where you list 100 life goals to complete in 10 years. I decided that I absolutely have to write about this.

Why Should You Make a 100 Life Goals List?

There are a few reasons I like this idea. The first reason is that it’s just plain important to outline your goals. What do you want to do in the next 10 years? How do you want to live your life? I think it’s important to be present in day to day life, but it’s also too easy to get consumed by the short-term. A list of goals acts as a sign post that you can check periodically to see if you’re on track.

Another reason that I like this list is because it acts as a time capsule of sorts. You can look back at it in 5 or 10 years and see which goals you completed. You can see how your goals have changed as your life has progressed.

The final reason that I like this is because it is a great way to analyze your life. What is your life like now? What do you want to improve? What’s truly important to you? It’s a great way to step outside your self and see what’s going on and where you want to steer your life.

So with all of that being said, I encourage you to join me in doing this exercise! Eventually I’m going to create a worksheet that can help guide you, but for now just pull up a Google Doc or your composition journal and start thinking! After I’m done, I’m going to tell you what some of the challenges were and what I discovered about myself through doing this.

 

Challenges In Outlining 100 Life Goals

When I went to make this list, I thought it was going to be pretty easy. Then I started out and could only get 10! But once I separated them into categories, it became much easier to think on what I wanted to do.

There were a couple things that helped me to really get the list going. The first was reading the lists of other people (such as Jasmine Zelda, Fully Lived, Maya Elious, and Jack Canfield). Sometimes I would take their idea entirely, other times I would simply take the premise and make my own goal. Another thing that helped was searching for “travel destinations” or “skills to learn” to help fill in other areas.

Overall I found it incredibly easy once I got some momentum. PLUS I feel like I have a much better understanding of what I want my future to look like.

 

My 100 Life Goals for the Next 10 Years

From July 3, 2018 to July 3, 2028 I want to complete the following life goals:

 

Travel

  1. Long term travel in SE Asia and Australia
  2. Visit every continent
  3. Backpack through South America (particularly Colombia and Brazil but everywhere)
  4. Visit Japan
  5. Visit China
  6. Visit my friend in the Philipines
  7. Visit my friend in Latvia
  8. Visit Ireland with my mom, brother and sister
  9. Visit Hawaii
  10. Backpack Greek Islands
  11. Attend Burning Man
  12. Attend Electric Forest music festival
  13. Hike the PCT
  14. Visit NYC
  15. Travel/volunteer in Africa
  16. Travel to Alaska
  17. Go on a solo vacation and stay in hostels (Completed: Travelled solo and backpacked around Nicaragua in January 2018)
  18. Road trip across America
  19. Visit the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
  20. Swim in all 5 great lakes
  21. Work in another country
  22. Move to and live in a major city (besides San Francisco)
  23. Live in a van for a while
  24. Go on a kayaking trip
  25. Go on a multi-night backpacking trip

 

Health/Fitness/Sports

  1. Get down below 10% body fat
  2. Get good enough at volleyball to keep up with the players at the YMCA
  3. Maintain a caloric deficit for 5 months (until November 2018)
  4. Bench press 200 pounds
  5. Play on a soccer team
  6. Go rock climbing outdoors
  7. Try Keto diet
  8. Quit Sugar for 30 days (Completed: Did this for 30 days in early 2018)
  9. Quit caffeine for over 3 months
  10. Quit nicotine for over 3 months
  11. Squat 300 pounds
  12. Run a half marathon
  13. Become a stronger swimmer
  14. Don’t eat out for a month straight
  15. Try being a vegetarian for a month
  16. Become a consistent 50% three point shooter in basketball
  17. Get to 180 pounds (add 15-20 pounds muscle)
  18. Be able to walk on my hands
  19. Be able to do 20 pull-ups in one go

 

Skills

  1. Learn to speak Spanish fluently
  2. Get a better command of Google Analytics
  3. Become a proficient graphic designer
  4. Learn to draw
  5. Become a photographer
  6. Become a videographer
  7. Learn to play an instrument
  8. Take a martial arts class
  9. Become a great dancer

 

Career

  1. Publish a book
  2. Make a full time living through digital entrepreneurship
  3. Get a job in tech
  4. Make at least one vlog
  5. Start a sports gaming YouTube channel
  6. Get 1,000 visits per day to this blog
  7. Create a course to help people implement positive change in their lives
  8. Master every social media channel (over 10k followers)
  9. Become skilled at making Youtube videos
  10. Create a mobile app
  11. Write a piece for a major publication
  12. Be interviewed on a podcast
  13. Start a podcast
  14. Finish my degree
  15. Get a promotion
  16. Create a viral piece of content
  17. Write a guest post on another blog
  18. Attend a blogging/marketing conference
  19. Become an effective negotiator
  20. Get a mentor
  21. Be a mentor

 

Financial

  1. Buy a house
  2. Pay off my mom’s house
  3. Retire my mom
  4. Add $90k to my investment portfolio
  5. Get spending down to $3,000 per month for 2 months straight
  6. Sell current car and downgrade
  7. Enroll in a credit cart that gives me points for flying

 

Social

  1. Go on at least 10 dates in a 3 month span
  2. Be in a committed relationship
  3. Be in a casual relationship
  4. Get married
  5. Go out of the country with friends
  6. Start/join a soccer team
  7. Have a vacation fling (Completed: Happened in Nicaragua in January 2018 🙂

 

Habits

  1. Establish a habit of reading for 1 hour of every day
  2. Take 6 months off of personal social media
  3. Establish a healthy bedtime/wake-up routine (must be for 6 months)
  4. Write a blog post per day for 30 days
  5. Meditate every day for 30 days
  6. Meditate twice per day for 30 days
  7. Journal every day for 30 days

 

Service

  1. Help others with their drug/alcohol addiction
  2. Use exclusively reusable grocery bags every time I go grocery shopping
  3. Stop using plastic straws and silverware
  4. Bid to host a conference and win
  5. Volunteer for Covenant House, a group that helps homeless youth
